摘要:

二十世纪见证了中国现代戏剧的兴起和发展,其中包括对本土演剧传统的改良与革新,也有对西方戏剧理论和表演范式的借鉴与扬弃。戏剧艺术体系走向现代的过程伴随着现实主义演剧体系、革命话语实践和民族风格建构的多元互动。本期所遴选的英语世界中国现当代戏剧研究主要集中在三个领域:一是从戏剧史的角度,对晚清到当代一个半世纪以来现代戏剧在中国的发展所进行的梳理和探讨。其中不仅涉及著名戏剧作品的创作和排演,也包括戏剧理论的建构以及戏剧对社会现实和革命话语的介入。第二个领域围绕着传统戏曲现代化展开,包括京剧的革命化改造以及针对田汉的个案研究。第三个领域涉及西方戏剧经典的本土化问题,包括莎士比亚、萧伯纳等人的剧作在中国的搬演和改写,以及中国舞台上所塑造的“外国人”形象。

Abstract:

The 20th century witnesses the emergence and development of modern Chinese drama, which includes the renovation of local traditions about performance and dramatic arts, as well as the borrowing from and adopting Western resources of performing arts and modern system of actor training and rehearsal technique. The process of the dramatic modernization in China was accompanied by the complicated interactions among socialist realism dramatic theories, the revolutionary discourse and the construction of ideology. The research on modern and contemporary Chinese drama in the English-speaking world selected in this issue mainly focuses on three fields. The first one is about archival research and historical analysis of Chinese moder dramas. Scholars in this field discuss the development of modern drama in China from the late Qing dynasty to the present. It involves not only the creation and rehearsal of famous drama works, but also the establishment of modern drama theories, as well as and the intervention of drama in social reality and revolutionary discourse.The second area is centered around the modernization of Chinese traditional operas, such as the rewriting of Peking Opera in political context, and case studies of Tian Han. The third field involves the localization of Western drama classics in Chinese theaters, including the adaptation and rewriting of plays by Shakespeare, Bernard Shaw, and the roles of "foreigners" played by Chinese actors on local stages.
